
ABOUT
Matt is a prolific Rose d’Or winning drama and comedy director, with twenty years worth of experience under his belt. He’s just finished filming on Shakespeare & Hathaway for BBC Studios, and is returning there in the summer for the imminent new series of Father Brown. Last year found him undertaking 2nd Unit duties on Dexter Procter, written by Adam Kay, and starring Peter Serafinowicz & Jameela Jamil. ​Prior to that he directed both series of the double Emmy nominated family drama A Kind of Spark, which won Best Children's Programme at both the Broadcast and Royal Television Awards. Meanwhile, he flexed his comedy muscles on Perfect, a critically acclaimed sitcom for UKTV and both series of the award-winning comedy, Jack and Dean of All Trades.

Other narrative credits include Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale; as well as the comedy musical All Killer, and Hollyoaks, for which he received a Best Single Episode nomination at the British Soap Awards.

He’s also a much-in-demand director of children’s scripted television. He directed series nine of Horrible Histories, including the Rose d’Or winning Black British History episode, and is the ongoing series director on the hugely popular Andy and the Band for CBBC. Prior to that he directed both series of Spy School, which was nominated for a BAFTA.

In addition, Matt has extensive comedy entertainment experience, where he’s worked on shows including Saturday Night Takeaway, The Mash Report, and Off Their Rockers. He also directed the UK shoots for Sacha Baron Cohen’s series Who is America?
​
Matt’s work in commercials includes films for Nike, Lego, & Barclaycard, and he won a Cannes Lion for his Little Casanova campaign.

He is currently co-writing a Rosie Jones' scripted drama project, which is in development with Various Artists Limited.​​

Valued above all else for his unique relationships with talent of all ages, his forensic understanding of script, and his calm demeanour, Matt directs for both single and multi-camera. He lives in the North-West, and retains a base in London.
